Assistant Corporate Counsel – Lowell, AR

JB Hunt is seeking to hire an Assistant Corporate Counsel to help negotiate multi-year transportation agreements (mainly), but also other agreements and provide general legal advise to their Executives.

Job Description:

The successful candidate for this role will:

  • Negotiates, drafts, evaluates, and finalizes commercial agreements in a timely manner
  • Develops and leverages internal and external relationships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals
  • Must be able to balance multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting tight implementation timelines
  • Provides legal, compliance, and insurance advice to commercial leaders
  • Directs legal support for business transactions and projects involving risk
  • Identifies, assesses, and manages risk to the company
  • Participates in other duties as assigned
  • Possesses the intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills needed to independently and efficiently identify and assess situations presenting commercial and legal considerations


  • Doctoral degree (Juris Doctor) from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials
  • Licensed to practice law (and in good standing) in at least one state
  • At least two years of relevant legal experience post-degree
  • Experience negotiating, drafting, and reviewing agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business leaders and impact decision-making
  • Excellent project management skills, writing skills, listening, and oral communications skills, diplomacy, finesse, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong business judgment and skill in distinguishing between high and low priority legal issues
  • Customer-focused and ability to interact with business leaders at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to analyze complex legal matters
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to work independently or on a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and influence business leaders at all levels of the organization

Other preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in negotiating and drafting business agreements, including transportation and software/information technology agreements
  • Experience with real estate transactions and contracts
  • Experience working in a corporate legal environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, marketing, economics, or general business studies
